About this Campaign

An estimate of only 18 % of girls and women in Zambia got access to proper menstrual hygiene products. Liseli Initiative provides girls in school with access to free menstrual hygiene products, so they never have to skip a day in school when they are on their monthly period.

We are producing reusable sanitary pads for distribution to vulnerable girls in Zambia. All the pads are produced by ourselves with help from our local tailors in Livingstone. We are not only helping vulnerable girls, but we are also supporting the local economy as it's important for us to buy all materials used for the pads locally, and furthermore we are creating employment opportunities.

It wouldn’t be an issue to donate a bunch of disposable menstrual pads, but it wouldn’t be sustainable and we would only solve this significant issue for a limited amount of time. We had to look out for a solution that would be more permanent and sustainable.

Reusable sanitary pads are the best way to solve period poverty, and at the same time reusable sanitary pads have a lot of other benefits as well - despite being economically friendly.

Our goal is to produce 9,000 reusable sanitary pads to be distributed to 4,500 girls in the rural parts of Livingstone and Kazungula in Zambia.

Our initial target was to distribute 5,000 pads but during our outreach in rural communities of Livingstone, we discovered that there is need to increase production as most of the village girl were using very unhygienic menstrual hygiene practices.

Use of Funds

The funds donated will enable us produce 5,000 reusable sanitary pads to be distributed to 2,500 girls.

The funds will be used as follows:

2. $2,350 will be used to buy hygienic soap and underwear.

3. $2,000 will go towards the cost of production. e.g Labour and Distribution of sanitary pads in rural areas.
