About this Campaign

Rural poor in Karonga Northwest earn their livelihoods mostly from climate sensitive rain-fed agriculture. Their production is typically limited to a 3-6 months rainy season. However, the yields are subjected to weather-driven fluctuations and are generally low. Apart from climate effects, these rural smallholder farmers have been hit by COVID-19. This pandemic has affected the prices of farming inputs hindering the poor from accessing them. Efforts to boost production is gravely affected in the end.

In supporting the vulnerable needy families which are likely to face acute hunger, we intend to implement smart irrigation projects which families can do within their homes with vegetables and maize. In practicing these irrigation systems, the environment will be saved as plastic bottles polluting and suffocating the green environment will be reused for production of food as you can see in one of the attached pictures. As part of nurturing future sustainable irrigation agriculturalists, we intend to teach students in schools as well together with GreenLight Solutions Foundation whose details are found on www.glsolutions.org.

Please support our initiative so that we empower the vulnerable rural population in food production. The money raised will be used to buy seeds and mobilize community members to collect plastic bottles of 2L size for production. Our goal is $2,000. Anything that you can support with will help to advance Sustainable Development Goal 2 in Karonga Northwest. Thank you so much for your kindness. We shall update you on how we used you precious donation.

Use of Funds

The $2,000 that is to be raised will help us to buy seeds which we recommend farmers to use with our farming systems. It will also be used to mobilize people for the plastic bottle collection campaign. Reports about how it got used shall be shared to you as we always do (you may confirm with GivingWay office).

We have also set a sustainability framework as every step involves the community and we endeavor to reuse bottles, and champion organic farming as a way of making farming more practical and affordable by them.
