Andoriña is a hostel with volunteering options in the hostel and on an ´organic farm´, the hostel offers a homely feel, tastfully decoration, excellent breakfast and the many common areas and terraces. It just has been refurbished and offers now also a kitchen for the guests. We do have 26 beds.
Hostel: all typical work in a backpackers´ hostel with lots of freedom and autoresponisiblity. Ideas like group cooking, painting and art projects will be stimulated. Volunteers can help also in the extended hostelgarden. Farm: (trans)planting, watering, weeding, feeding animals, sometimes construction work, treat compost, etc. Obviously personal initiatives are stimulated. Especially people focused on permaculture, ecobuilding, forestry, organic growing are invited.
Hostel: includes food, except some special stuff like honey, home roasted coffee (you can have the same coffee as for the guests). Farm: food not included - before going up to the farm you should to your shopping on the local market for the amount of days you´ll be in the mountains.
Nothing in particular
See website www.andorinasamaipata.com for more details. Hostel: you should speak and understand at least basic Spanish. Farm: the volunteer house offers 4 beds, kitchen, views over mountains, chimney. For couples there´s a separate space available in a nice old stone house with chimney for winter (June-August). If you cannot withstand silence, this is not your spot; 30 minute drive from town, or a walk of 2.5 hours. Music instruments are available. Solar panel for light and charging equipment, and a well with pure water, also for irrigation. A wood oven is available for baking bread, pizzas, etc. Shower, ecotoilet, as well as hammocks.
Andoriña has been founded in 2006, by Andrés (Dutch) and Doriña (Samaipateña). As a hostelvolunteer you will further work with Marlene, Marina and especially with (now, 2016) Juanita, in the afternoons. During your stay you´ll definitely make friends with travellers. On the farm you can be confrontated with silence, because we don´t live there permanently (the spot is half an hour by car from town near the Amboró cloud forest).
