CHIP(Children In Progress) Mumbai is an NGO providing holistic education to children studying in BMC schools. Our parent organisation was started by a group of educationists and doctors in Kolkata in 1997, and the Mumbai chapter has been active since 2004.
Our primary goal is to promote quality education in government schools, giving all the students an opportunity to realize their potential, acquire knowledge, new skills, and an attitude which will help them become successful citizens and lifelong learners.
Currently, CHIP conducts the following programs across 8 BMC schools:
The Balwadi Project (Ages 3-5 Years):A child’s maximum brain development takes place between the ages of 3-5 years, and CHIP’s Balwadi programs are designed to provide high quality pre-school education, giving these children a valuable head start in life. At present, we run 11 Balwadis, and intend to increase this number to 25 before the end of 2016.
The School Enrichment Program (Ages 6-10 Years):Enhancing the quality of education provided to children at the primary level via innovative, activity based teaching methods whichinvolve and engage both the teachers and the students.Our mission is to raise the students’ standards in essential subjectssuch as English, Mathematics and Art, bringing them up to par with the children studying inprivate schools.
The After-School Program (Ages 10-15 Years): A structured, after-school program providing access to academic support, opportunities forextra-curricular learning and platforms to showcase talent.
Fellowship Program:By training and empowering young women from within the local communities, this programcreates educators skilled in effective teaching practices. Our teachers receive extensive and regular training by experts at Podar International School.
