Education Plus Nicaragua is a grassroots after-school program that provides food, education, recreation, material assistance, and love to the children of Barrio el Pantanal, who are among the poorest in the world.

Volunteering Activities


What We Need

Be prepared to do real work and make a real impact! We empower our volunteers and you will receive as much responsibility as you are willing to undertake. Whether it be teaching a class, leading recreation activities, tutoring individual students, or supervising and serving meals, you will be provided a positive and rewarding experience that will help change the lives of many children and perhaps your own as well!

General Volunteers:
- Half-days
-5 days per week
- Beginner Spanish okay

Reading Tutor (one-on-one instruction):
- 2-3 hours per day,
- 4 days per week
- Intermediate Spanish required

- Full-time
- Beginner Spanish okay

Social worker:
- Full or part-time
- Intermediate Spanish required

When & Who

Our Volunteers are welcome to enjoy the hot lunch that we also serve to our students. Every day the menu is different and always delicious!

Our Fees

No fees

Please note that we do NOT charge a fee to our Volunteers. We know that your time and your talent are valuable, and we appreciate the sacrifices it takes to be a volunteer. As a low-budget grassroots organization, we cannot offer renumeration, and we do not provide accommodation or pay travel expenses.

Other Ways to support us

One Day Volunteer Experience

A narrated tour of the program and the barrio where our students live given by one of our Directors. Guests may also help in classes, serve food, and play with the kids.

Additional Info about Us

10 to 20 people

Working with the local community, we serve over 250 children ages 2 to 18 nutritionally, educationally, materially, and spiritually. We instill core values, teach life skills, and produce concrete results: higher school enrollment, improved grades, and elimination of malnutrition.
