The Gili Shark Conservation Project is the first of its kind in the Gili Islands. It takes an active role in conservation issues in Indonesia’s three Gili Islands: Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air. We are a small conservation and data collection program seeking hardworking and enthusiastic people.

For decades, Indonesia has been ranked as the number one shark fishing nation in the world. The overfishing has resulted in a greatly reduced number of sharks in the local waters. Make a real difference in conservation through research and data collection and through local awareness events to help save the sharks of Indonesia!
You will spend your time alongside experienced underwater researchers and learn about the fragile ecosystem and its many living organisms. It creates a nice balance between learning and playing while you enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Gili Islands.
There are many ongoing projects like including underwater video surveillance (BRUV), data collection, roving survey dives, beach clean ups, underwater clean up dives, photographic identification of our resident sharks and turtles, a time lapse project, benthic and fish survey dives, community days with the local schools, and environmental events and workshops to help the Gili Matra Marine Reserve and the environment of Gili Air.
