The Gili Shark Conservation Project is the first of its kind in the Gili Islands. It takes an active role in conservation issues in Indonesia’s three Gili Islands: Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air. We are a small conservation and data collection program seeking hardworking and enthusiastic people.
Are you looking for the ultimate holiday adventure in Indonesia? Join our shark conservation team on Gili Air and become a researcher! We’re a small team, taking care of marine conservation and shark research around the Gili Islands in Indonesia.
We offer packages from 2 weeks upwards including 8 dives a week, your next PADI diving certification, accommodation on a beautiful island, delicious food and a lot of knowledge about shark research and marine life.
You’ll be a full part of our research team, helping to support marine conservation and the local community on Gili Air. We have multiple projects including underwater video surveillance, roving survey dives, underwater clean up dives, photographic identification, a time lapse project, and benthic and fish survey dives.
Besides our work for shark conservation, we have several projects on land and in the water, to support the local community and create a plastic free paradise. We are working closely together with national and international organisations and collaborate with scientists like Dr. Mark Bond and Dr. Christine A Ward-Paige.

For decades, Indonesia has been ranked as the number one shark fishing nation in the world. The overfishing has resulted in a greatly reduced number of sharks in the local waters. Make a real difference in conservation through research and data collection and through local awareness events to help save the sharks of Indonesia!
You will spend your time alongside experienced underwater researchers and learn about the fragile ecosystem and its many living organisms. It creates a nice balance between learning and playing while you enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Gili Islands.
There are many ongoing projects like including underwater video surveillance (BRUV), data collection, roving survey dives, beach clean ups, underwater clean up dives, photographic identification of our resident sharks and turtles, a time lapse project, benthic and fish survey dives, community days with the local schools, and environmental events and workshops to help the Gili Matra Marine Reserve and the environment of Gili Air.
