We are always in need of volunteers to help teach classes, lead projects, and work at our partnership schools. We need up to 16 volunteers for projects in Tanzania and up to 15 volunteers for our projects in Malawi at a time throughout the year. You should be at least 18 years old.
During your time with us we can organize for you to volunteer in one or both Tanzania and Malawi. We encourage volunteers to stay for a minimum of 30 days in Malawi and / or in Tanzania, however shorter stays can be considered, but in this case, we suggest only volunteering in one country, and 14 days is the minimum stay possible.
While volunteering with us, you would live at our Friendly Gecko guesthouses in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Lifuwu, Malawi. Our guest houses are comfortable and a nice place for volunteers to hang out and unwind at the end of a busy day. Our guesthouse in Dar es Salaam is situated within walking distance of the Indian Ocean, and our guesthouse in Malawi is along one of the African Great Lakes, Lake Malawi, the 3rd largest lake in Africa. Please, find more information and pictures about our Malawi and Tanzanian guesthouses online at: www.friendlygecko.com.
The costs include accommodation in one of our dormitories (4-6 people), most of the meals, room cleaning, in-country support, administration and security. There are also private rooms available at the Friendly Gecko Guesthouses: if you wish to stay in a private room, we can give you a specific quote on request. Our international management team on-site will always be present and take care of you 24/7. We do not charge a fee for the volunteering itself.
Travels costs, visa, permits and insurance are at the expense of the volunteers.
If you would like, we can arrange a pick-up at the airport for USD 30 in Tanzania and for USD 100 in Malawi.
The cost to volunteer at help2kids is as follows: for stays of 30 days or more in Tanzania we offer a weekly rate of USD 175 per week, which includes comfortable shared accommodation, most of the meals, security and 24/7 support on site. On the other hand, our operating prices are lower in Malawi, where we are able to offer a slightly lower volunteering cost of USD 140 per week.
For stays of less than 30 days, we have to charge a higher rate to cover the extra administrative costs.
A Tourist Visa to volunteer in Tanzania costs USD 50 and is valid for 3 months, while a Tourist Visa to volunteer in Malawi costs USD 75, is valid for 1 month and easily renewable.
Our objective is to give some of the most vulnerable children in Tanzania and Malawi access to the basic necessities that all children deserve; education, food, health care, shelter, and a loving family environment so that they can break out of the cycle of poverty and live happy, productive lives. We believe in the power of education and the potential of all children. Today, we are running a children's home, a primary school and a nursery school and we are providing free health care for over 600 children and youth in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. In addition, we have expanded our projects to Malawi where we are running a nursery school and other education and health related projects in a small fishing village called Lifuwu.
