Entwine is a department engaging young professionals which sits within the larger organization JDC. JDC (Joint Distribution Committee) is the world’s largest Jewish humanitarian assistance organization and works in over 70 countries worldwide.
Entwine is a one-of-a-kind movement for young Jewish leaders, influencers, and advocates who seek to make a meaningful impact on global Jewish needs and international humanitarian issues. We do this by offering service experiences in Jewish communities around the world, educational events and programs, and leadership development opportunities.
The Multi-Week Jewish Service Corp (JSC) are 1-2 month immersive volunteer experiences in communities around the world. Multi-Week JSC fellows work with local partners and experts in the field to develop and implement programs that address critical global issues. This program is ideal for recent graduates, students with long breaks, or young professionals who are seeking a meaningful experience while engaging in service through a Jewish lens. There are several diverse volunteer opportunities including working with at-risk children, implementing educational programs, assisting the elderly, strengthening Jewish communities abroad and more! If you have an interest in making an impact on global humanitarian issues and enjoy working with communities, this is the program for you! Opportunities are available all year round, with sessions during winter, spring, summer and fall.
JDC Bulgaria: Through the Multi-Week program we will be offering a summer volunteer placement in Bulgaria helping to facilitate multiple community summer programs for kids, elderly and families.
JDC Turkey: Through the Multi-Week program we have on going summer placement in Turkey running a local Jewish summer day camp. Together with Turkish Jewish madrichim (counselors), Fellows plan a day camp for Turkish Jewish children ages 7-10 on the Prince Island of Buyukada and are fully immersed in the local Jewish community. Fellows are responsible for developing and carrying out day to day camp activities including art, sports, music and informal Jewish education.
JDC India: Through the Multi-Week program we have on on going placement in India with a partner NGO Gabriel Project Mumbai (GPM). In 2012 JDC established a partnership with the NGO Gabriel Project Mumbai (GPM) to connect the local Indian Jewish community to the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam and empower them to take responsibility for the world around them. GPM’s mission is to help break the cycle of poverty and hunger in the slums of Mumbai through education programs and food distribution. As an initiative of the Indian Jewish youth group, the Jewish Youth Pioneers (JYP), several young Indian Jews are selected to be GPM interns.
JDC Entwine also partners with GPM each year to send 30-40 young Jews from around the world to volunteer in the slums as joint JDC-GPM Multi-Week JSC Fellows. JDC-GPM Fellows create innovative literacy and informal education programs by teaching in English and interacting with the children. They also help by cooking, packaging and delivering daily warm meals for children, creating an incentive for parents to send their children to school rather than to work in the streets. JDC-GPM Fellows are simultaneously immersed in Mumbai’s vibrant Jewish community, working alongside their Indian Jewish peers and at the JCC.
JDC Russia: Through the Multi-Week program we have on summer placement in Russia helping to facilitate various English language programs for Jewish children in St. Petersburg.
