Our local not-for-profit organization established in 1995, monitors & protects critically endangered nesting sea turtles (Hawksbills & Leatherbacks) and their habitats, carries on youth environmental education and conservation practices and train turtle/nature local guides

Our mission is: The social and the environmental must now come together, indeed, they should have never been apart.
Our goals are to preserve the natural ecosystems, fauna and flora, encouraging the island sustainable development through conservation activities involving and educating youths and promoting eco-tourism.
Our projects carry out programs and activities locally, focusing on nature conservation, habitat restoration (beaches & mangroves), preservation of endangered species (sea turtles), wildlife monitoring/ID with youths (resident & migratory birds), youth environmental education and conservation practices and Turtle/Nature Guide
training , developing socio-economic opportunities at community level (ecotourism).

Our Activities

What We Need

Volunteers will actively participate in monitoring and data-collection of 2 critically endangered Sean Turtle Species, Leatherback and Hawksbill, nesting on 3 different beaches on the Island; helping to reduce illegal poaching activities of turtles and eggs. This involve:
- Night patrols on foot in a Nature Park area, from 8pm to 5.30am, for 5 nights a week.
- Working with local guides or field research assistant, helping with tagging post-nesting sea turtles;
carapace measuring and other data collection; disguising tracks and nests against poaching activities; egg counting and mapping nest location; eggs relocation when needed.
- Hatchling monitoring
- Early morning beach patrols following night patrols
- Beach clean up
Research Assistant needed with experience in nesting sea turtle monitoring and tagging

From March 15 to August 31, every year
30 days for volunteers. 60 days for research assistants

What We Provide


Accommodation in a bungalow or in a Pagoda with bunk beds, kitchenette facilities and cooking gas, bathrooms with hot shower, electricity and WiFi

For Volunteers:
500 US$ for the first 30 days
15 US$ per any additional day
Payment is due on arrival or at least 15 days before arrival via money transfer (in this case we add bank charges)
Payment for the first month (500 US$) is non-refundable.
If the volunteer’s stay is less than 30 days the total cost remains at 500 US$
For Research Assistants:
food allowance of 10 US$ per day, free accommodation with cooking facilities (free cooking gas and electricity). Expenses, such as flights or other transportation costs are covered by RAs.

- KIDO is part of WIDECAST-Wider Caribbean Sea Turtle Conservation Network,
- Volunteers need to have a keen and genuine interest in conservation and ecology and have love and respect for all animals, wild and domestic.
- Only vegetarian, non-smoker, non-alcohol and non-drug users accepted
- Volunteers must be good swimmers, physically fit to walk long distances on soft, sandy beaches and nature trails, working in any weather conditions.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules when required & able to adapt to work nightshifts and sleep during the day.
- Be willing to work under instructions as a team member.
- Volunteers has to keep tidy and clean their quarters at all times, all living spaces at KIDO are communal
- Volunteers are required to feed rescued dogs living in the same compound, provide them with water and keep the compound clean.
- Volunteers are required to have their own travel insurance
