Welcome to our small organization named KPYM (Kumharla Pabbar Yuva Mandal) whose major projects are to support CHILD EDUCATION, WOMEN EMPOWERMENT and last but not the least THE VILLAGE EMPOWERMENTthroughout Pabbar valley, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, the northern part of India.

We put together this welcome package to provide you with some guidance on what to expect during your volunteer experience, as well as give you the run down on the types of volunteer work you can help out with, plus loads of other
useful information to help make your time here as comfortable as possible.Our aim is to give you the best and most enjoyable volunteer experience possible, while also giving you the opportunity to make a difference to all of our projects.

About Kumharla Yuva mandal(KYM)
Kumharla yuva mandal was . It was started by a team of mountain people, with one classroom, providing lessons for children in the local community. This project has blossomed into a multifaceted NGO that aims to increase the life opportunities of the poorest members of communities throughout pabbar valley, Shimla. KYM began teaching some of the underprivileged children in their community. They saw there was a desperate need to not only provides quality education to the children of pabbar valley, but to provide hope and be a positive influence for all of their community. As time went by, KYM began to educate more and more children, all of this done in the back of their main school in Kumharla, By 2010, was now educating hundreds of children as well as doing many other positive things for their community, such as counseling women in their community through the women’s empowerment program.
Since 2010, this community has grown exponentially. It supports over 250 women and children across pabbar valley. In addition to our main school in Kumharla, we also have two women’s empowerment programs in tikri and chambal, computer education projects in Shimla town, and a self sustainability program in Delhi.There is still so much work to be done, and much of the work cannot be completed without your help. KYM really values the input of volunteers—from the impact they have on the women and children, to the support they provide our Commune in helping achieve its goals and aspirations
Our mission is to contribute to the building of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the science, culture, communication and information.
The purpose to start these new projects is to promote our projects which are running in rural area of North India and giving an opportunity to the volunteers to share their skills in urban areas also. Through the Digital Marketing KPYM can make good links to the world. And the School of Language is that project where anyone can teaches and learns different -different languages like Hindi, English, Spanish, French, and German etc. We hope that it’s a right path to give the benefit to the society.

Many of the children attending classes also attend classes in the Government school. We provide them with a second source of education as the education the children are receiving at the government schools is not always the best.
Ponta Village School
This is one of our schools in pabbar valley, consisting of around 30 children. If you would like to teach here than you can assist teachers with their lessons or even take your own lessons if you feel comfortable. It will be a rewarding experience as the children are very enthusiastic and eager to learn.
Women’s empowerment program Tikri village
One of our newest projects, at our Tikri School we provide education to young women from the local community. The women are aged between 7 and 13 and they learn all regular subjects such as Hindi, Math and English. In the future we hope to introduce a program where the women will make items from making bags, jewellery and tailoring, which will be sold in the shops and the market, providing them with an additional revenue source
Chambal education and agriculture project
This is the village which is approximately 60 kms from Shimla town with magnificent views of Himalayas.Here we are helping local people with the awareness of organic farming.Host family consist of Mother,father,son and his family.Joginder Thakur is the person who is the volunteer coordinator and help volunteers for their work.In future we are planning to start child education and women empowerment programs.
Projects in Kumarhala village, Shimla Himachal Pradesh
Kumaharala village is situated 144km outside the city of Shimla, in the Himalayas. The type of volunteer work you will be doing here is called ‘Village Empowerment’. You can help out on the farm, teach English or other subjects to the children in the village or teach and council the women in the community.
Computor Education ,Shimla
We also run a small education projects at our base in Shimla for anyone interested in teaching the local children. The current class is around 10 children and we teach them regularly Monday – Friday.
