Other Ways to Help

Childcare for Sex Workers

The childcare center addresses the communities’ need for a safe place for the children of sex workers to be cared for while their mothers may be working. The center addresses the health, social, and recreational needs of the children. It provides shelter, food, recreational play, and will transport for medical care if needed. It is the only center providing services to this specific population. The mission is to provide high quality child care to the children of sex workers in the Chinchina, Colombia. Program operates from Friday at noon until Monday at noon.

Our project is important because it provides a space for mothers to leave their children outside of school hours and during a time when mothers may be working. Our program presents one solution to the problem of children potentially being left home alone, or in unsafe situations.

Program objectives include protection from malnutrition, sexual abuse, and neglect. The children in our program spend every weekend in a protected environment, where they feel love and safety.
We have up to 50 children in our program at a time, ages 0 months to 12 years.

We believe that our program has the potential to provide a better quality of life for the children that we work with, as well as potentially improved future health outcomes. Providing a safe and nurturing space for these children may prevent them from experiencing dangerous situations at home (abuse, neglect, exposure to violence, exposure to drug use, etc). May also change long-term health outcomes and prevent them from becoming involved in the sex trade in the future.

In addition to volunteering at the Childcare Center for Sex Workers, participants may volunteer at several public & private schools within the community. A custom volunteering program may be created to your desire. How busy do you want to be?

Tools & supplies, anything you want to bring to gift is welcome.
