Okwawu City Soccer Academy
What We Need
The Okwawu city soccer academy is an organization focused on leveraging sports to create hope for local talent, developing the Obomeng community and twenty sub communities.
We aim to nurture football talents from the age of 10 to 15 to help them realize their potential. As a nonprofit organization working in Obomeng-kwahu, eastern Ghana, we welcome all volunteers interested in our goals to create community social impact and also give hope to the young football talents.
Academy players are mostly scouted from football matches in selected areas; Kwahu, Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and the Central Region. Talented but needy kids are selected and enrolled to our sports program with parental agreement.
We develop academy children through extra-curricular sports activities, field training, fitness coaching, football tactics training and health/Physio training.
The teaching volunteer program is designed to allow volunteers to work with local teachers to learn their teaching methods and assist with improving them to enable a long term impact.
The School stages we currently work with are:
Junior High School
Obomeng ICT information center
In Ghana we lack support for maintaining and building facilities like schools, clinics and water bodies. These buildings sometimes develop cracks, holes in the floor and loose chairs which pose a danger for the children and adults. We seek to fix dilapidated buildings within Obomeng and its villages and ensure there is clean water for adults and children. We also look to build facilities which will help our project and our footballers realize their potential in both sport and life.
When volunteers help to build and renovate these facilities, they are helping to create a conducive environment for the children to learn and grow. They are also helping us to develop our football project which helps kids reach their full potential.
MentorHer Ghana is an affirmative concern project introduced in Ghana but started from the kwahu-south area Eastern-Region, purpose is to nurture girls between the ages of 10-16years.This has become necessary as the district keep recording high teenage pregnancy rate every day. A research conducted in the kwahu-south area indicated that 600 teenage girls’ 13-17years got pregnant from 2017 to 2019.
Also, there are many teenage girls within the discussed age that cannot make well informed decisions, lack career guidance and ICT skills.
Marginalized groups we currently work with are the:
- selected schools in kwahu-south
-Ghanaian girls above required age but interested in the initiative.
Why we need volunteers:
With the support of more volunteers joining this initiative, we are assured of diverse skill and knowledge impact share for the stakeholders of the project. We hope to instill knowledge like critical thinking, soft skills, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, visual stories and good reading skills etc.
Volunteers are key contributors to sustaining this initiative as they are expected to introduce resource and support to add value to the program.
