One Aid - One Soul
One Aid - One Soul is a charity located in Eastern Uganda created to empower vulnerable children, elderly and other community members through sensitization, rehabilitation and talent development in different social and ecological projects.
What We Need
We welcome all people with various skills or ideas that support the children, elderly, and the community as a whole. These skills might include teaching skills such as in the area of art, ecology, sustainability, sports, dance, yoga and many more, skills in engineering, construction, gardening as well as general maintenance. Moreover, fun being around children and/or elderly people is very important!
Our currents projects in an overview:
*️️️️ Art and Craft Project for Children and Young People
We teach children various craft skills for example making hand bags, hats, mats, etc. Art and craft lessons are scheduled every Saturday after their boarding school studies. We market the products and support the organization.
*️️️️ Hygiene and Sanitation Project Children and Young People
We sensitize children about having access to facilities for the safe disposal of human waste (feces and urine), as well as having the ability to maintain hygienic conditions, through services such as garbage collection, industrial/hazardous waste management, and wastewater treatment and disposal.
*️️️️ Ecology Project
We sensitize people how people and nature depend on one another through planting trees and visiting beautiful nature. It's our major concern to understand ways human activities affect earth over time.
*️️️️ Elderly Care Project
*️️️️ Health Project 'Jigger Run'
Thousands of people in the Uganda suffer from jiggers and other bacterial diseases. 'Jigger Run' is a project to save those effected by jiggers and also help them in prevention from other bacterial diseases. We sensitize people how to prevent such diseases and directly help those actually affected.
When & Who
What we Provide
We will make it most convenient for you and try to provide transport from and to the airport (approximately about 6 hours from Entebbe to Sironko).
Regarding accommodation, there are two different options for staying - and you can choose the option you prefer; either in a room of the family's house, or a single house nearby with more space (and a toilet/latrine outside).
Unfortunately, we do NOT pay for visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations.
We mostly eat altogether, so that we provide food.
However, you will also buy your own drinks and foods from time to time, yet these expenses remain comparatively low and are dependent on your own needs.
More Services we Offer
Our philosophy has been to spread love and happiness, or "Let's Smile Together". As for this, volunteering in this project will definitely change your life in a way that you experience living in an African community, and feel the positive change and movement that is possibly when everybody starts doing a little bit.
Besides this life changing experience, Uganda and its people really ARE one of the friendliest and most welcoming people in the world. It is thus easy to get in touch with people and their life stories. Furthermore, you will get experiences in working for a growing nonprofit organization, mostly in a practical way but also in a theoretical managerial perspective.
Lastly, volunteers MUST explore the beauty of Uganda, and Sironko District is a great starting point for this in the Eastern Region of Uganda. Sironko is mountainous, has a river and sisi water falls. Moreover, it is close to the famous Sipi Falls and to Mt. Elgon. Moreover, volunteers can experience safari tours with close-by safari operators or the big city life in Kampala or Jinja with its various sites. We are also happy to do tours together with you, and of course, we provide transport from the airport and back to make your arrival most convenient for you.
