ORWDAP was initiated by a group of women in 1990 to put an end to difficulties faced by women in remote communities. Originally acting as sustainable micro-credit scheme to ensure women in rural communities in the South west region could develop their own businesses so that they could become financially self-sufficient. It has since developed, to include other activities all with the sole focus to see that these women are treated equally by providing both development opportunities they were, or are, denied of and ensuring these are effectively facilitated.

Health Care

Since women have to be healthy in order to effectively carry out their activities, ORWDAP attaches a lot of importance on its primary health care promotion projects. This includes a series of workshops to sensitize and educate women on sexual health, menstrual health, sanitation, pregnancy & new-born care, nutrition & health. To this effect, the Healthy Mother Healthy Community Project was conceived and put into place.

Living in rural areas poses particular challenges for people with disabilities in accessing education, training, and employment opportunities. ORWDAP helps break down the barriers that rural disabled people face to improve their livelihoods, those of their families, and take an active role in rural economic development

ORWDAP believes that educating and training women bring about self-esteem and confidence so that they can strive to be strong active members of society. For the last 12 years, we’ve been running a series of vocational training workshops that have allowed more than 400 women to step into their communities with the skills and qualifications to make them more employable. These include:

Computer literacy; from Microsoft office to coding, we offer classes to women who are interested in kick starting their career in administration or informatics.

ORWDAP is teaming up with some new and exciting start-ups that focus on women’s development in the business world. They will be carrying out workshops on microfinance, business development and accounting, all with the aim of creating business opportunities for women

ORWDAP is opening up a sewing workshop for women in the community to channel their energy and creativity towards an income generating activity. Girls Enterprise Sewing Cooperative acts as both a training center where women can learn to design and sew, as well as a workshop where they can use the resources and space to produce their independent products for their individual retail micro-businesses. Our services also offer business workshops, financial and marketing advice for new entrepreneurs.

Volunteers are always welcome to join our organization, it would be a great honor welcoming you.
