The Mission of PORAKA NOVA is to work on the effective promotion of the rights of people with intellectual disability and their families, in a way that each citizen, which is any way related to the intellectual disability, will have an opportunity to receive adequate support and resources he/she needs.
The Center for improving the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities and their families PORAKA NOVA was formed in 1984 as a non-profit association, at the initiative of parents who have a child with a disability. From the very beginning the association worked in the form of a social club, where parents and people with disabilities come to socialize and share experiences.
As of 2004, within Poraka Nova a social service Day Center started functioning where people with intellectual disabilities trained daily and acquire skills for optimal involvement in the community and independent living in general to improve their quality of life.
Poraka Nova cares for inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in the labor market, through regular contacts with companies that employ people with disabilities. Within the Center people with disabilities are trained for gaining practical skills that will be beneficial for future employment.
In the past years, starting from 2005, PORAKA NOVA actively works to promote volunteering, it includes local and international volunteers in the daily operations of the association. In the past in PORAKA NOVA contributed more than 20 international volunteers and interns through the programs of the European Commission and the Peace Corps, and through cooperation with universities from Albania. Therefore there formed a center for information, guidance and counseling volunteers and Volunteer Center.
In 2010 recreation center was established, whose main goal is fulfillment of leisure of people with intellectual disabilities through informal socializing and training in various courses, languages, science, sports, singing, acting, dancing, cooking, social skills, gardening, and others.
In 2011 the Resource Center was founded, which united more targeted services to people with intellectual disabilities, their families, staff, volunteers, also the center for research and training.
