Sambhali Trust

Jodhpur, India, South Asia
Sambhali (“Rising of the deprived”) Trust is a nonprofit organization recognized by the UN (ECOSOC) that works to empower women and children in Jodhpur and the Thar Desert. It was founded by Govind Singh Rathore in 2007 and by now, it has worked with over 10,000 women and children. Next to the Women Empowerment Centers in the mornings, girls and boys from 3-13 years have the opportunity to attend our Primary Education projects post-lunch. Our staff of local teachers and volunteers from all over the world teach them in English, Maths and Hindi and provide general knowledge in weekly workshops. It is essential to teach all our students in a sustainable way and to encourage them to pursue their further education and attend a local school. It is also our aim that Sambhali’s children will pass on their value of learning. These projects are in desperate need of funding to offer help to our young girls and boys who deserve support with their school work.

What We Need

We are looking for volunteers to help women and children at Sambhali Trust. We are an NGO based in Jodhpur (urban) and Setrawa (rural) and need volunteers for both of these areas.
We run projects at our Empowerment Centres on hygiene, sewing, life skills and much more. Volunteers will also go to our projects in Jodhpur to teach and assist classes in Hindi, English and Maths with women and children. Our graduates sew and make everything for our boutique, and volunteers supervise and support these hardworking women. There are also opportunities to work in our offices, to promote Sambhali Trust on social media and to help create and strengthen partnerships with donors and sponsors.
Since our projects in Jodhpur are settled very well, we now want to concentrate more on the rural side. Next to our Sambhali center, we want to work with the local government school and hospital and send volunteers over there to help and support the staff. We believe that the students and patients deserve all the help they can get and we would like to be a part of that. Instead of establishing our own medical center, we request to work together with the Indian government to strengthen the village people in need. For that we are looking for nurses, doctors, teachers and photographers who could help us in Setrawa

We have a preference for volunteers who have a good command of English.

When & Who

To ensure that your time here with us makes a real difference, we request a minimum stay of two months, so that you can follow the progress of projects at our centres, although this can be discussed with Govind Rathore. Volunteers may stay for as much time as they have to offer us and the cause.

If you want to volunteer in the rural area of Setrawa, you stay together with other volunteers at our Dev Bagh Resort, from where you can enjoy the quitness and beautifull view of the Thar Desert. The Resort also hosts our horse Shanti which makes it perfect for all nature and animal lovers.
