Society for Rural Education and Development (SRED) has been working among the rural Dalit and Tribal people of Vellore, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts with focus on Health, Education and Development, SRED intervenes to achieve Gender equality in Socio, Economic and Political sphere. Health services is provided through regular health clinic, referral services, HIV/AIDs awareness , Reproductive health, Prevention of Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), and Sensitization on the need of accessing health services. Promotion of health Preventive practices.
Although SRED stresses the need for education of dalit and Irular tribal children equal importance is given for promotion of education of girl children from these communities. School enrollment campaigns are organized each year, Special coaching classes are arranged for these children through tuition centers to make them to cope up with the requirement of the educational standards in schools.
Comprehensive development of these communities are major intervention areas of the organization. These communities are treated as untouchable and denied their access to schemes, welfare measures and common property resources. SRED intervenes to make these communities to access these opportunities with the support from the duty bearers.
SRED provides technical skill training for women, provide legal training, entrepreneurship training, collective farm training, livestock training.
