Non-governmental organization that seeks to guarantee the rights of persons with disabilities.
SODIS is an organization with many years of experience. Previously led by Javier Diez Canseco, SODIS have been a major stakeholder in all the national process for the recognition of the rights of persons with disabilities, including the new legal framework, the national disability survey and the implementation of various budget programs.
Currently SODIS is presided by Alberto Vásquez who holds a LL.M. on International and Comparative Disability Law and Policy by NUI Galway. He has previously worked at the Ombudsman Office and the Congress in disability-related issues, and he has conducted many researches on the rights of persons with disabilities.
Our executive director is Silvana Queija who holds a Master in Fundamental Rights in the University Carlos III Madrid. At the board of SODIS participate also Liliana Peñaherrera, José Isola, Víctor Hugo Vargas, Luz Elena Calle and Gladys Fernández. All of them have plenty experience on promoting and defense of rights of persons with disability, with first-hand experience in a range of areas, from accessibility to legal capacity. Liliana Peñaherrera is also the president of the Peruvian Down Syndrome Society, and Víctor Hugo Vargas is the president of the Disability Commission of the Bar Association of Lima.
SODIS have worked with many organizations of international cooperation and international funders, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNPD), the Belgian Development Cooperation (BTC), the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECID), Open Society Foundations, Disability Rights Advocacy Fund (DRAF), INTER-AMERICAN FOUNDATION (IAF), among others. SODIS also have closely worked with the Catholic University of Peru and the Cayetano Heredia University.
Support in activities related to the defense of persons with disabilities. Review of projects in other countries that have or require a disability approach, project support on support networks to achieve the autonomy and independent living of persons with disabilities and / or participation in activities on the rights of persons with disabilities.
