We are a non-profit non-governmental organization registered and based in Greece composed of a dedicated group of people driven by our desire to protect the environment through specific courses of action such as environmental conservation projects and scientific research targeted towards sustainable development.
The goal of our field volunteer program is to contribute to sustainable development in the area, and is part of the Kalamos and Kastos sustainable development program. An important goal of this, is to help educate and inspire people from around the world with respect to sustainability and nature conservation. It is based in the Kalamos Island biological field station. Volunteers work on a pre-agreed plan with us based on the structure of our program.
There are two ways you can participate in our work. The first is by participating in one of our pre-arrange activities for the field season. The second is to organize an activity for each volunteer individually in one of our thematic areas of work. We work out a pre-agreed plan on an individual volunteer basis which can include a mixture of activities both pre-arranged and an individual basis one in one of our thematic areas .
We operate on a non discriminatory policy basis. People of all ages 18 or above can potentially join the program provided they can show the relative commitment and ethos .We try our best to fit what we do to the individual volunteer. We don’t separate people based on gender, ethnic origin, sexual orientation or religious belief.
Commitment to our cause is an essential characteristic of any volunteer.
Accommodation and other related facilities for work are included in the fees. This can be either camping in our camping site or a bunkbed in our main building. Hot/cold water, kitchen facilities, bathroom and shower, laundry machine and drying facilities, free high speed internet are provided. Occasionally we have movie nights in our large screen in the main building. A large sitting area and fan air-conditioning in the summer and central heating in the winter is available.
Each volunteer is assigned to a volunteer coordinator. All orientation and training is provided at the individual volunteer level via participation in workshops, meetings and personal coaching for the task given.

In a world where the natural world is declining and environmental conservation is gaining increasing ground we dare to take it one step further and accept the increasingly popular opinion that the world needs more wild areas more wild animals more natural ecosystems with large animals that are essential to ecosystem function. In this we never forget that sustainable development is a major driving force to achieve this objective in many areas through sustainable ecosystem management. The right science is lacking though and sometimes our goal will be to fill the gaps in knowledge prior to any action or take temporary action until this is so
We work by producing both actual work and conducting scientific research.
