Review of Special Hope Network by Katie Schuelke
Special Hope is great!
I spent 3 months volunteering here over my summer break. I am a student in Speech Pathology and came to assist the onsite SLP. SHN has a wonderful model of serving; as well as providing medical and educational resources for their children, they actively work with the mothers and therefore the communities to change the massive stigma that comes with a disability. For their volunteers, they have a great balance between helping you find housing, settle in, and make friends, but also leave you to explore and learn on your own. This helped me really feel a part of Lusaka, getting involved in the local university's (UNZA) campus ministry, find a church home, and explore and find my niche in Lusaka.
