"I enjoyed every day at Caras Alegres, from the first till the last. I felt welcome, appreciated and valuable. Any ideas I, or one of the other volunteers, was taken seriously and this basically meant that we could do anything, from organizing Zumba classes to making pretty bracelets for Valentines day. Other than that I learned so much from the kids and everybody who works at Caras. A boring day was simply not possible and not a day was the same. The kids are so lovely and excited, they love coming to Caras every afternoon to play and learn and their excitement rubs off on anybody who works there. I loved how excited and patient the kids were to also help me with my Spanish, although the generations both had their own ways. The older kids would try to find other ways to explain words to me or describe them, but the young ones would just repeat themselves until they thought I got it and then it was fine with them. Both helped me immensely with improving my Spanish.
The kids and staff at Caras Alegres will always have a very special place in my heart and I would love to return one day."
